WKU Hosting Symposium On 'Black Life And Culture'

Bowling Green, Ky. - WKU, in collaboration with Kentucky African American Encyclopedia Project, will host a symposium on “Black Life and Culture in the Commonwealth” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Kentucky Library & Museum.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Dennis Dickerson of Vanderbilt University, author of “Militant Mediator: Whitney M. Young, Jr.,” an award-winning biography of a Kentucky native who headed the National Urban League during the Civil Rights era.

Other presenters are Maxine Ray, New Era Planning Committee, Bowling Green; Mike Morrow, Executive Director, West Kentucky African American Heritage and Research Center, Russellville; Dr. Saundra Ardrey, head of the WKU Department of Political Science and African American Studies Program; Dr. Patricia Minter, Associate Professor, WKU Department of History; Karen McDaniel, Visiting Assistant Professor in the EKU African American Studies/Women Studies Programs and General Co-editor of the Kentucky African American Encyclopedia.
