WKU Honors Owensboro Area High School Scholars

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University honored 41 seniors from eight Owensboro area high schools for their academic achievements.

Tuesday’s annual High School Scholars Luncheon honored high school seniors who qualify for an academic scholarship to WKU. This year’s group has an average ACT composite score of 29.3 and grade-point average of 3.85 and includes 27 Governor’s Scholars and six National Merit Semifinalists.

The students honored at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro included:

From Apollo High School: Jordan Merimee, Garrett Scott.

From Daviess County High School: Michael (Bo) Armstrong, Eric Dever, Taylor Hatfield, Mary Higginson, Kaitlin Hizny.

From Hancock County High School: Christopher Mittelberg, Timothy Taylor, Betty Williamson.

From Henderson County High School: Carmen Tucker Messamore, Emily Naas, Craig Peden, Katharine Phillips, Leigh Watson.

From McLean County High School: Jeremy Bozarth, McKinley Heflin.

From Ohio County High School: Christopher Berry, Joan Keith, Kenton Pieper, Brett Renfrow, Jordan Woolen.

From Owensboro Catholic High School: Adam Clark, Maggie Glaser, Kristin Miller, Susana Solorza, Kristen Wathen, Parker Whitehouse.

From Owensboro High School: Mollee Bellamy, Ellen Cecil, Markie Dohrenwend, Tara Glenn, Hannah Ison, Nicole Johnson, Hayden Kelley, Amashi Kendall, Laura Miller, David Smith, James Stovall IV, Jasmine Swanagan, Dylan Ward.

Upcoming recognition events include South Central Kentucky Scholars Luncheon on Jan. 22; Bowling Green/Warren County Scholars Luncheon on Jan. 23; and Elizabethtown Area Scholars Dinner on Jan. 27.
