WKU Forensic Team Members Qualify For National Tourney

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members co-hosted and competed at the District Six tournament for the American Forensic Association on the weekend of Jan. 24-25.

At the AFA District Six tournament, WKU‘s team qualified several more members for the AFA national tournament in April.

WKU’s Rachel Wigginton of Glendale was chosen to represent her district for the AFA All-American Student award. WKU’s Samantha Harrison of Carrollton, Texas, was elected to serve as the District Six student representative.

Results from the District-6 AFA Qualifier/WKU Swing are as follows:

Todd Rainey, a sophomore from Indianapolis, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and tournament champion in impromptu speaking in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and tournament champion in impromptu speaking in the WKU tournament.

Rachel Wigginton, a senior from Glendale, tournament champion in persuasive speaking in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in persuasive speaking in the WKU tournament.

Kelly Lootz, a sophomore from Plymouth, Mass., tournament champion in informative speaking in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in prose interpretation in the WKU tournament.

Cornelius Lee, a senior from Killeen, Texas, tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in programmed oral interpretation in the WKU tournament.

Ethan Millspaugh, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, tournament champion in dramatic interpretation in the Districts tournament; second in prose interpretation in the WKU tournament.

Joele Denis, a senior from Hollywood, Fla., tournament champion in poetry interpretation and third in impromptu speaking in the Districts tournament.

Samantha Harrison, a junior from Carrollton, Texas, second in poetry interpretation, fifth in persuasive speaking and fifth in impromptu speaking in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in poetry interpretation and sixth in persuasive speaking in the WKU tournament.

Ganer Newman, a senior from Sherman Oaks, Calif., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation and fifth in prose interpretation in the WKU tournament.

Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, third in informative speaking and fifth in communication analysis in the Districts tournament; second in informative speaking and third in communication analysis in the WKU tournament.

Seth Peckham, a junior from Alden, Kan., fourth in communication analysis in the Districts tournament; tournament champion in communication analysis in the WKU tournament.

Chelsea Harman, a sophomore from Hickory, third in poetry interpretation in the Districts tournament; second in persuasive speaking in the WKU tournament.

Maggie Woodward, a freshman from Collierville, Tenn., sixth in communication analysis and sixth in informative speaking in the Districts tournament; second in communication analysis and fourth in informative speaking in the WKU tournament.

J.D. VanSlyke, a senior from Wylie, Texas, second in impromptu speaking in the Districts tournament.

Mario Nguyen, a freshman from Plano, Texas, second in impromptu speaking in the WKU tournament.

Lauren Nelson, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., fifth in prose interpretation and fifth in informative speaking in the Districts tournament; third in prose interpretation in the WKU tournament.

Katie Nedvidek, a junior from Danville, third in communication analysis in the Districts tournament; sixth in communication analysis in the WKU tournament.

Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., fifth in extemporaneous speaking in the Districts tournament; third in extemporaneous speaking in the WKU tournament.

Khristan Solliday, a freshman from Mitchell, Ind., seventh in extemporaneous speaking in the Districts tournament; fourth in extemporaneous speaking in the WKU tournament.

Michael Courtney, a sophomore from Mayfield, fourth in prose interpretation in the Districts tournament.

Rob Strobel, a sophomore from Lexington, sixth in extemporaneous speaking in the Districts tournament; sixth in extemporaneous speaking in the WKU tournament.
