WKU Forensic Team Wins 19th Straight State Championship

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University Forensic Team won its 19th consecutive Kentucky Forensic Association State Championship last weekend in Owensboro.

WKU team members earned 12 state individual titles during the Feb. 21-22 event. WKU placed first in overall team sweepstakes, followed by Murray State University.

Individual results for KFA tournament are as follows:


Team of Jessica Furgerson (San Antonio, Texas) and Elizabeth Mullins (Plymouth, Mass.) state champion in parliamentary debate.

Team of Kelcy Hathaway (Garden City, Kan.) and Rachel Mosley (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) semifinalist in parliamentary debate.

Team of Logan Parke (Little Rock, Ark.) and Thomas Schally (Stillwater, Minn.) quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate.

Team of Brian Bloss (Coppell, Texas) and Kaleb Jessee (Garden City, Kan.) quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate.

Lauren Nelson, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., state champion in individual sweepstakes, state champion in extemporaneous speaking, second in impromptu speaking, second in informative speaking and third in poetry interpretation.

Maggie Woodward, a freshman from Collierville, Tenn., state champion in informative speaking, state champion in communication analysis and second in prose interpretation.

Taron Grizzell, a freshman from Union City, Calif., state champion in dramatic interpretation and state champion in duo interpretation (with Celena Allen).

Celena Allen, a freshman from Hayward, Calif., state champion in duo interpretation (with Taron Grizzell) and second in dramatic interpretation.

Katie Nedvidek, a junior from Danville, state champion in persuasive speaking, third in communication analysis, fourth in after-dinner speaking and fifth in informative speaking.

Chris Hiller, a freshman from Coppell, Texas, state champion in prose interpretation and fourth in dramatic interpretation.

Lillian Schoer, a junior from Billings, Mont., state champion in poetry interpretation and fourth in prose interpretation.

Colby Holt, a sophomore from Paducah, state champion in programmed oral interpretation and fourth in informative speaking.

Jeffrey Boggess, a junior from Hayward, Calif., second in poetry interpretation, second in duo interpretation (with Corey Gomez), third in dramatic interpretation, fourth in programmed oral interpretation and fifth in prose interpretation.

Corey Gomez, a freshman from Newark, Calif., second in programmed oral interpretation, second in duo interpretation (with Jeffrey Boggess) and fifth in dramatic interpretation.

Khristan Solliday, a freshman from Mitchell, Ind., second in communication analysis and sixth in extemporaneous speaking.

Jason Carey, a junior from Hutchinson, Kan., third in persuasive speaking and fourth in extemporaneous speaking.

Alexander Wozencraft, a freshman from Tulsa, Okla., third in prose interpretation and fourth in informative speaking.

Thomas Schally, a senior from Stillwater, Minn., second in persuasive speaking.

Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., third in extemporaneous speaking and ninth debate speaker.
Logan Parke, a junior from Little Rock, Ark., third debate speaker.

Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, fourth debate speaker and fourth in persuasive speaking.

Rob Strobel, a sophomore from Lexington, fourth in communication analysis and fifth in impromptu speaking.
