Green, Ky. - Dementia, a name used to identify a number of health conditions, is rising as the population ages. Caregivers in the Bowling Green region will have the opportunity to learn firsthand what experts know and don’t know about dementia.
Dr. Dana Burr Bradley, director of the Center for Gerontology at Western Kentucky University, is participating in a Family Caregiver Workshop on Feb. 17. The workshop, sponsored by The Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Barren River Area Development District.
The workshop is designed for non-professional caregivers, and Dr. Bradley will discuss why dementias are increasing and offer best practices for caregivers based on cutting edge dementia research. She will be joined by Catherine Delpont, Community Education coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association, who will talk about home safety issues, and Franklin Berry with Berry Law Office, who will discuss current legal issues and aging.
There is a $15 fee for the workshop which covers lunch and materials. Interested people must pre-register no later that Monday (Feb. 16). To register, call 1-800-272-3900.
