Green, Ky. - While the public remains concerned as a confirmed case of swine flu have been connected to Kentucky, the director of Western Kentucky University’s Health Services recommends following all well-established universal precautions for avoiding any type of flu.
Libby Greaney said those precautions include thoroughly washing your hands, covering your mouth with a tissue during a cough or sneeze, or sneezing or coughing into your sleeve (not hands) if no tissue is available to prevent spreading the virus.
Greaney said WKU Health Services is in constant contact with the Centers for Disease Control, Barren River District Health Department and other relevant agencies to keep up with all current information. The campus community will be notified immediately should any cases be reported regarding any member of the WKU campus.
WKU Health Services has implemented Level 1 of WKU’s Flu Pandemic action plan. Level 2 will be implemented should further information such as diagnosed cases warrant it. Level 2 implies Alert Status.

All local physicians have received a swine flu health advisory with directions for diagnosis and treatment schedules for those patients who test positive for influenza type A.
