WKU Pre-College String Program Adds Two Instructors

September 02, 2008

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University popular Pre-College String Development Program provides private lessons to dozens of students, with more on the waiting list. In an effort to dissolve the waiting list and to further expand the private lessons program, two new instructors have been hired to teach part-time this fall.

The two accomplished instructors are Rebecca Reed-Lunn and Jordana Greenberg.

Reed-Lunn studied at Indiana University where she received a Bachelors of Music Degree with High Distinction and a Performer Diploma in viola. Her teachers include Cassandra Lynne Richburg, Alan de Veritch and Yuval Gotlibovich. She studied violin with Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner of the Indiana University String Academy and applies many of their teaching methods, including their incorporation of the Suzuki method, with early note-reading. She has worked as the assistant to the director and violin and viola instructor for Suzuki Maui in Kula, Hawaii, as well as violin and viola instructor for Smith Holden Music and Education and assistant violin and viola instructor with the Indiana University Summer String Academy in Bloomington, Ind.

Greenberg has been performing internationally since the age of 12. She has soloed with orchestras across the United States and South America, and has given recitals on four continents. Entering the Indiana University School of Music at age 15, Greenberg studied there with Miriam Fried. As versatile as she is accomplished, she has won numerous fiddle contests and performed in many non-classical settings, including a concert with Reggae pop star Ziggy Marley. In addition to her work with the Bowling Green Symphony, she performs with a bluegrass duo in Nashville, Tenn., called Sisters Grimm.

WKU’s Music Department and the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO) developed the Pre-College String Development Program in 2003 to offer high quality instruction in orchestral stringed instruments in a nurturing environment.  Students who have previously inquired about the strings program are encouraged to register.
