WKU Forensic Team Co-Hosts Speech And Debate Fiesta

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members co-hosted the WKU Speech and Debate Fiesta with Ohio University on WKU’s campus the weekend of Sept. 26-28.

WKU closed out the final rounds of both Lincoln-Douglas and parliamentary debate, but as tournament co-host the team was not eligible for team sweepstakes or overall awards.

Results from the WKU Debate Fiesta are as follows:
Kelcy Hathaway, a junior from Garden City, Kan., tournament co-champion in parliamentary debate (with Rachel Mosley) and second parliamentary debate speaker.

Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, tournament co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and third Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker.

Rachel Mosley, a senior from Lake Tahoe, Calif., tournament co-champion in parliamentary debate (with Kelcy Hathaway) and third parliamentary debate speaker.

Lauren Nelson, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., tournament co-champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker.

Josh Ramsey, a junior from Fort Scott, Kan., tournament co-champion in parliamentary debate (with Brandon Merrell) and sixth parliamentary debate speaker.

Brandon Merrell, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., tournament co-champion in parliamentary debate (with Josh Ramsey) and 17th parliamentary debate speaker.

Joshua Harzman, a sophomore from Salina, Kan., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and 10th Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker.

Todd Rainey, a sophomore from Indianapolis, fourth Lincoln-Douglas debate speaker.

Frank Murdock, a freshman from Kingston, Wash., octafinalist in parliamentary debate (with Sarah Spiker).

Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., octafinalist in parliamentary debate (with Frank Murdock).

Results from the Ohio University Individual Events Fiesta are as follows:
Seth Peckham, a junior from Alden, Kan., tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking, tournament champion in impromptu speaking and third in informative speaking.

Rachel Wigginton, a senior from Glendale, tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Cornelius Lee).

Joele Denis, a senior from Hollywood, Fla., tournament champion in communication analysis and second in dramatic interpretation.

Cornelius Lee, a senior from Killeen, Texas, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) and second in duo interpretation (with Ashley Litsey).

Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, second in extemporaneous speaking and fourth in impromptu speaking.

Michael Courtney, a sophomore from Mayfield, second in informative speaking.

Ashley Litsey, a senior from Hodgenville, second in duo interpretation (with Cornelius Lee).

Lauren Nelson, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., third in impromptu speaking, third in persuasive speaking, third in quadrathon and fourth in after-dinner speaking.

Ethan Millspaugh, a sophomore from Coppell, Texas, third in poetry interpretation, fifth in after-dinner speaking and fifth in duo interpretation (with Ganer Newman).

Jeffrey Boggess, a junior from Hayward, Calif., third in dramatic interpretation.

Carrie Guggenmos, a junior from Fullerton, Calif., third in communication analysis.

Katie Nedvidek, a junior from Danville, fourth in communication analysis and fifth in persuasive speaking.

Adam Swanson, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., fourth in dramatic interpretation.

Kelly Lootz, a sophomore from Plymouth, Mass., fifth in prose interpretation.

Ganer Newman, a senior from Sherman Oaks, Calif., fifth in duo interpretation (with Ethan Millspaugh).

Chelsea Harman, a sophomore from Hickory, sixth in informative speaking.
