WKU Eighth Annual Scholarship Celebration Sept. 30

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University will bring donors and students together Sept. 30 for the eighth annual Scholarship Celebration.

About 400 to 450 donors and students are expected for the dinner at 6 p.m. at Diddle Arena. The Scholarship Celebration recognizes benefactors who have established endowed scholarships and provides them with an opportunity to meet the recipients.

Speakers include WKU President Gary Ransdell; Tom Hiles, vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the WKU Foundation; Alex Downing, president of the College Heights Foundation; Abraham Williams, executive director of the Housing Authority of Bowling Green; and Mary Taylor Cowles, Lady Topper basketball coach.

The total of endowed scholarships in the WKU Foundation, Hilltopper Athletic Foundation and the College Heights Foundation is about $52 million. In 2007-08, WKU awarded $3.3 million in endowed scholarships. Thirty new scholarships were created for 2008-09.
