Green, Ky. - In celebration of Nappy Roots Day in Kentucky and in conjunction with the Campus Activities Board, Nappy Roots will be in concert on Sept. 16 at Western Kentucky University.
The concert will begin at 6:45 p.m. near the Guthrie Tower on the Downing University Center South Lawn. The concert is free and open to the public.
Nappy Roots, a platinum-selling alternative southern rap group that originated in Bowling Green in 1995, is known for hits such as “Awnaw,” “Round Da Globe” and “Po Folks.”
The group’s newest album “The Humdinger” was released in August. Nappy Roots’ first two albums “Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz” and “Wooden Leather” were huge successes. Nappy Roots was the number one selling hip-hop group in 2002, as well as winning various awards and nominations.
The group consists of Georgia native Fish Scales and Kentucky natives Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch and Big V.
