Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity To Expand To WKU

September 03, 2008

Bowling Green, Ky. - Phi Gamma Delta staff members will be on campus Sept. 24-Oct. 29 recruiting men to become Founding Fathers of a Phi Gamma Delta colony at Western Kentucky University. This will be the first fraternity to open on WKU’s campus in several years.

Fraternity staff members will be on campus to recruit the initial members, conduct interviews, facilitate leadership training and build relations with WKU staff and faculty. Phi Gamma Delta was selected after considering several fraternities and their Lexington-based International Headquarters has already been contacted by undergraduate students interested in the opportunity.

Phi Gamma Delta joins an already strong Greek community on campus. The Fraternity’s Colony Development Program supports men new to the Greek system in developing a top-tier fraternity on campus, while quickly becoming a part of a dynamic Greek community. Fraternity staff members will be actively engaged in campus activities from the start and will be living near campus to offer constant contact.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Phi Gamma Delta to add another chapter to the State of Kentucky,” said Justin Burns, the Fraternity’s Director of Expansion. “Phi Gamma Delta’s chapter at the University of Kentucky has been excited about the possibility of a Western Kentucky chapter. They are ready to assist and are already pledging assistance to support the Colony’s Founding Fathers.”

Phi Gamma Delta is one of the oldest men’s social fraternities, having established itself on May 1, 1848, in Canonsburg, Pa. This 160-year history includes several notable Phi Gamma Delta members such as President Calvin Coolidge, Nike Founder and CEO Phil Knight, Professional Golfer Jack Nicklaus, and Supersize Me star Morgan Spurlock. Headquartered in Lexington, the Fraternity is present on 114 college campuses throughout the United States and Canada and has more than 100,000 living members. Four new Phi Gamma Delta colonies will be opened this fall.
