Author Martha Ackmann To Speak At WKU Sept. 17

Green, Ky. - The author of “The Mercury 13: The True Story of 13 Women and the Dream of Space Flight” will speak at Western Kentucky University on Sept. 17.
Martha Ackmann’s presentation, sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Mass Media and Technology Hall Auditorium. It will be followed by a book signing and a reception. She will also be participating in informal conversations at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18 in Cherry Hall room 125.
Ackmann is a journalist, author and editor who writes about women who have changed America. Her works have appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times and many other publications around the country. A frequent contributor to the op-ed pages of the nation’s newspapers, Ackmann focuses on science, women’s history, medicine, politics and sports. She is also a commentator for National Public Radio.
Ackmann’s first book, “The Mercury 13,” (Random House) has received critical acclaim. The book tells the dramatic story of 13 women pilots who secretly tested to become America’s first women in space. More information on Ackmann is available at http://marthaackmann.com/
