WKU Forensic Team Competes In Two Weekend Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Berea, Ky., and Colorado Springs, Colo., to take part in two tournaments the weekend of Oct. 25-26.

At the Berea College/University of the Cumberlands tournament, the team of 15 placed all students in elimination rounds, captured the Overall Grand Champions title and received the Large School Debate Sweepstakes championship.

Results from the Berea College/ University of Cumberlands Tournament are as follows:

Rachel Wigginton, a senior from Glendale, tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Cornelius Lee) and second in duo interpretation (with J.D. VanSlyke) in the Cumberlands portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with J.D. VanSlyke), second in prose interpretation and second in duo interpretation (with Cornelius Lee) in the Berea portion.

J.D. VanSlyke, a senior from Wylie, Texas, tournament champion in poetry interpretation, second in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) and semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Cumberlands portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) in the Berea portion.

Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, tournament champion in impromptu speaking, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking and quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Elizabeth Mullins) in the Berea portion.

Cornelius Lee, a senior from Killeen, Texas, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) and semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; second in duo interpretation (with Rachel Wigginton) and semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Berea portion.

Robert Whittley, a sophomore from Glenview, Ill., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, fourth in prose interpretation and fourth in poetry interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; third in poetry interpretation in the Berea portion.

Desiree Guerrero, a sophomore from Fullerton, Calif., tournament champion in persuasive speaking and sixth in informative speaking in the Cumberlands portion; tournament champion in informative speaking and fourth in persuasive speaking in the Berea portion.

Chelsea Harman, a sophomore from Hickory, second in informative speaking, third in poetry interpretation, fourth in persuasive speaking and sixth in dramatic interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; second in persuasive speaking and third in informative speaking in the Berea portion.

Katie Nedvidek, a junior from Danville, fourth in communication analysis and fourth in after-dinner speaking in the Cumberlands portion; tournament champion in persuasive speaking and second in after-dinner speaking in the Berea portion.

Adam Swanson, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., second in prose interpretation and second in after-dinner speaking in the Cumberlands portion.

Chris Hiller, a freshman from Coppell, Texas, third in dramatic interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; third in dramatic interpretation in the Berea portion.

Kelly Lootz, a sophomore from Plymouth, Mass., fourth in informative speaking and semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; fourth in informative speaking in the Berea portion.

Samantha Harrison, a junior from Carrollton, Texas, fifth in impromptu speaking in the Cumberlands portion; seventh in informative speaking in the Berea portion.

Lillian Schoer, a junior from Billings, Mont., semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Cumberlands portion; fourth in dramatic interpretation and semifinalist in prose interpretation in the Berea portion.

Elizabeth Mullins, a junior from Plymouth, Mass., quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate Elizabeth Mullins) in the Berea portion.

Khristan Solliday, a freshman from Mitchell, Ind., semifinalist in impromptu speaking in the Cumberlands portion.

Results from the Colorado College “Al Johnson” Debate Invitational are as follows:
Todd Rainey, a sophomore from Indianapolis, tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking.

Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth in extemporaneous speaking and 16th parliamentary debate speaker.

Kaleb Jessee, a junior from Garden City, Kan., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, quarterfinalist in parliamentary debate (with Brian Bloss) and fifth parliamentary debate speaker.

Brian Bloss, a senior from Coppell, Texas, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate, quarter-finalist in parliamentary debate (with Kaleb Jessee) and fourteenth parliamentary debate speaker.
