Green, Ky. - Consider a new kind of creative process: Instead of an artist or engineer bringing to life their newest masterpiece, imagine a parent or teacher igniting and cultivating a creative young mind. Creativity is the key to success in the 21st century and encouraging creativity in Kentucky young people is critical to attaining this success. But recognizing and engaging creative young minds won’t happen overnight. It’s a process, a creative process that requires not only students and teachers, but parents as well.
The Center for Gifted Studies at Western Kentucky University invites parents, educators and other interested people to attend Dr. Bonnie Cramond’s thought-provoking seminar “Creativity: Glorious Gift or Awful Affliction?” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Thursday, Oct. 23. An author and teacher, Dr. Cramond is the director of the Torrance Center for Creativity and Talent Development at the University of Georgia. She will present a second session “Infusing Creativity and Critical Thinking into the Content,” designed for counselors, teachers and other school leaders from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24.
Both sessions will be held at the Knicely Conference Center at WKU’s South Campus. These sessions are part of The Berta Fund for Excellence and are free and open to the public.
The Berta family realized that “the future is our youth” and that meeting the needs of students who were gifted and talented required both parents and teachers. The Berta Fund for Excellence brings in experts in the field of education to conduct seminars and presentations designed specifically for the parents and teachers of gifted children.
