Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University has created a new partnership with the Frazier International History Museum in Louisville that will offer several educational opportunities for WKU students.
In its efforts to become a “Leading American University with International Reach,” WKU is linking with the Frazier Museum, which shares in WKU’s vision to develop globally minded graduates.
The partnership will offer a variety of activities to the students. Undergraduate and graduate level internships will be offered at the Frazier Museum beginning in January 2009 in research, educational programming and curatorial studies.
In addition, ImageWest, WKU’s student-run advertising and public relations agency, will help create a marketing plan for an upcoming exhibit about Fontaine Ferry Park. The largest project planned for the initial partnership is with WKU’s Center for the Study of the Civil War in the West, which will share in the development of a Civil War exhibit scheduled to open at the Frazier Museum in 2011.
Dr. Bernie Strenecky, Scholar-in-Residence, and Provost Barbara Burch have been key players in the development of this relationship, along with Dr. Madeleine Burnside, the Frazier Museum’s executive director.
“This partnership brings the Frazier Museum a giant step forward in our efforts to share our resources with all Kentuckians,” Dr. Burnside said. “We’re looking forward to a long and successful relationship with Western Kentucky University and its students.”
Dr. Burch agreed. “We are very pleased to have this special opportunity for our faculty and students,” she said. “We expect to begin immediately making the first internship placements available as we build on this relationship in mutually beneficial ways.”
About the Frazier International History Museum: The Frazier Museum demonstrates that history is happening, through outstanding permanent and traveling exhibitions, live interpretations by costumed interpreters, multimedia presentations, educational programming, and hands-on learning. It presents a priceless collection of items representing five major themes: colonization, exploration, technology, conflict and resolution, and Louisville history. The Frazier Museum is the only museum outside the United Kingdom to have a partnership with the Royal Armouries (Britain’s oldest national museum). Through that partnership, the Frazier Museum features 1,000 years of the history of our nation and world. For information about the museum, call (502) 412-2280 or visit www.fraziermuseum.org.
