Bowling
Green, Ky. - Dr. Dwight McKinney will discuss “Biomedical Ethics of Clinical Research” at the 2008 L. Y. Lancaster-Hugh Puckett Lecture Nov. 13 at Western Kentucky University.
The lecture begins at 6 p.m. at the Knicely Conference Center at WKU’s South Campus. A reception begins at
5 p.m.
Dr. McKinney, a WKU graduate, is the 29th lecturer in the series, which includes such notable speakers as Stanley Cohen, Ray Harm, Stephen Henry and Dero Downing. The lecture is free to the public.
Dr. McKinney graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he received the Founders Medal for the highest academic honors in his graduating class. He did his internal medicine training at the University of California-San Francisco and was a research fellow in the Laboratory of Kidney and Electrolyte Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health.
He has been an academic physician in the medical schools at Vanderbilt University, University of Texas at San Antonio and Indiana University, where he was the director of the Nephrology Division. Dr. McKinney recently retired from Eli Lilly, where he was the executive director of Global Clinical Pharmacology and Distinguished Medical Fellow. He is the author of more than 100 scientific and medical publications, chapters and books.
Dr. McKinney is the founding member and president of the Appalachian Foundation for Learning (www.appfound.org), a volunteer nonprofit organization whose mission is to support educational efforts in North Carolina’s high country.
