Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Rome, Ga., Akron, Ohio, and Manchester, N.H., to take part in three tournaments on the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
At St. Anselm’s Debate Tournament in New Hampshire, WKU’s team of only seven placed first in team sweepstakes, topping Lafayette College.
WKU students also received numerous awards at the Berry College “Miracle in the Mountains” Swing Tournament and the Akron “Rowdy” Tournament.
Results from the St. Anselm’s Debate Tournament are as follows:
Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and top debate speaker.
Josh Ramsey, a junior from Fort Scott, Kan., second debate speaker and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., third debate speaker and quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Kelcy Hathaway, a junior from Garden City, Kan., second in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Maggie Woodward, a freshman from Collierville, Tenn., tournament champion in informative speaking and tournament champion in persuasive speaking in the Berry portion; second in persuasive speaking in the Alumni portion.
Jason Carey, a junior from Hutchinson, Kan., tournament champion in impromptu speaking in the Berry portion; tournament champion in impromptu speaking in the Alumni portion.
Katie Nedvidek, a junior from Danville, tournament champion in after-dinner speaking and sixth in communication analysis in the Berry portion; tournament champion in persuasive speaking and third in communication analysis in the Alumni portion.
Samantha Harrison, a junior from Carrollton, Texas, second in duo interpretation (with Colby Holt), third in impromptu speaking and sixth in informative speaking in the Berry portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Colby Holt), third in informative speaking and fifth in impromptu speaking in the Alumni portion.
Colby Holt, a sophomore from Paducah, second in duo interpretation (with Samantha Harrison) in the Berry portion; tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Samantha Harrison) and fourth in poetry interpretation in the Alumni portion.
Celena Allen, a freshman from Hayward, Calif., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Taron Grizzell) in the Berry portion; fourth in duo interpretation (with Taron Grizzell) and fifth in prose interpretation in the Alumni portion.
