Green, Ky. - The National Weather Service, in conjunction with the Kentucky Climate Center and the Kentucky Mesonet at Western Kentucky University, will host its first Bowling Green area media seminar next week.
Morning and afternoon seminars are scheduled for May 15 at WKU’s Environmental Sciences and Technology Building, room 337. The morning session begins at 9:30 with the afternoon session at 1 p.m.
“We’re very excited to put on the first-ever Bowling Green media seminar at Western Kentucky University to spread the meteorology knowledge for the protection of life and property to the Bowling Green and Nashville area,” said John Gordon, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Louisville office.
The National Weather Service conducts media seminars in the Louisville and Lexington areas but asked WKU to host a seminar for media outlets in this area, according to Dr. Stuart Foster, director of the Kentucky Climate Center and the Kentucky Mesonet.
“The seminar will give the Kentucky Climate Center and the Mesonet valuable exposure in our region among a group of future users of our data,” Dr. Foster said.
The seminar is open to National Weather Service members in Louisville, Paducah and Nashville, media members in the Bowling Green, Fort Knox, Fort Campbell and Nashville regions and WKU’s meteorology faculty and students.
“The National Weather Service has developed partnerships with WKU and the Kentucky Mesonet so this seminar is a win-win for the university and for the media,” Gordon said.
