Bowling
Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University students have been honored at the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA) national conference.
The students, Justin Anderson of Wills Point, Texas, and Tyler Spencer of Bowling Green, are both employed in the Intramural/Recreational Sports Department. Anderson is the facilities graduate assistant and Spencer is the part-time administrator for sport clubs.
Anderson received the William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award, NIRSA Region II Excellence Grant, and the NIRSA Foundation Scholarship. Because he had the highest GPA of all awarded graduate students (4.0), his scholarship is named the William N. Wasson Scholarship.
Spencer received the William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award and the NIRSA Region II Student Excellence Grant.
The purpose of the William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award is to nationally recognize outstanding students who are employed by recreational sports departments on university and college campuses. Named after NIRSA's founder, Dr. William N. Wasson, <http://www.nirsa.org/Content/NavigationMenu/AboutUs/History/WilliamWasson/Dr_William_Wasson.htm> the award is intended to identify undergraduate and graduate students who set the standard on campuses across the country. The William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award is bestowed upon students by the NIRSA Foundation.
This marks the third straight year that WKU students have won the William N. Wasson Student Leadership & Academic Award. Past recipients and their current university include: Michael Collins (Florida State University), Rosie Porreca (Florida International), Caleb Wells (WKU), and Jordan Gardner (Purdue University).
The NIRSA Region II Student Excellence Grant recognizes outstanding students who are employed by recreational sports departments on university and college campuses. The award is intended to identify undergraduate and graduate students who "set the standard" or “epitomize leadership” on campuses across the region.
