Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University advertising senior Blair Vance of Mt. Sterling has been chosen to be the recipient of a prestigious internship at VML, a cutting-edge advertising agency in Kansas City, Mo.
This opportunity came about as a part of a new partnership that Cliff Shaluta, WKU associate professor and program coordinator, forged between WKU’s Ad+PR program and VML.
“As part of a fellowship sponsored by the Advertising Educational Foundation in the summer of 2007, I was able spend an amazing week with VML.” Shaluta said. “During that week we decided to combine forces to award to one advertising major a paid summer internship at VML.”
Advertising majors were invited to apply and after a competitive selection process and a series of interviews, Vance was chosen at the student best suited for the position.
As the first student getting to participate in the internship created through the WKU Ad+PR and VML partnership, Vance is looking forward to her time in Kansas City this summer.
“I cannot wait to begin my summer internship with VML; it’s the real world and I'm ready to give it my all, proving that WKU Ad Program is turning out students that can do the work,” Vance said. “This opportunity is so unique, it’s the first time that the advertising department has partnered with VML to ensure one student a summer internship, and I feel so privileged to have been chosen to represent WKU.”
Vance will graduate this May from WKU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in advertising and minor in marketing. Having previously interned with ImageWest, WKU’s student run advertising and public relations agency, as well as serving as the president of WKU’s chapter of the Advertising Federation, Vance already has some experience under her belt and is confident in the ways that the Ad+PR program has equipped her.
“The Advertising Program at WKU has given me an education that I consider irreplaceable, the value of what I have learned and the opportunities I was given will serve me well as I begin my career,” Vance said.
The Ad+PR programs are part of WKU’s award-winning School of Journalism and Broadcasting. With 175 students, the advertising sequence trains students in four distinct areas of study: account services, print advertising, broadcast advertising and interactive advertising. The School of Journalism and Broadcasting offers six school programs including broadcasting, mass communication, photojournalism, print journalism and public relations as well as advertising.
