WKU Music Department To Offer String Explosion Camp

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Music Department and the Division of Extended Learning & Outreach are pleased to host a summer music camp for strings students. 

String Explosion 2008 is an afternoon camp for area violin, viola, cello and double bass students in fourth through ninth grade. The camp will be held July 22 through July 25 in the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center on the campus of WKU.

The camp is geared toward students learning in an orchestra setting. Participants will be divided into orchestras based on their skill level. They will gain new skills and improve their playing through a variety of activities including string orchestra, sectionals, group classes, and outdoor games. A final performance for family and friends will be in the Recital Hall at the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center at 3:45 p.m. July 25.

Early registration for the String Explosion camp is $50 per student. The cost for students registering after May 30 is $65. The fee includes a camp T-shirt, daily snacks, music and instructor fees.

If your child is taking lessons for the first time and would like to participate in String Explosion, a minimum of four private lessons prior to the camp is required. Camp Director Sarah Berry is available to give private lessons this summer; contact her at (270) 745-5146 or sarah.berry@wku.edu.
