WKU Student Receives National Nonprofit Scholarship

May 09, 2008

Bowling Green, Ky. - Sara Miller, a student in Western Kentucky University’s Nonprofit Administration (American Humanics) minor program, has been selected for a national nonprofit academic scholarship.

Miller, a healthcare administration major and honors student from Shepherdsville, will receive an American Humanics Academic Award that provides recipients with a $1,000 scholarship.

Miller is one of 20 awardees chosen from a national pool of student applicants and one of two students selected from a Kentucky college or university. Miller, a former NextGen recipient, interned with the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville and was recently elected president of the WKU American Humanics Student Association for the 2008-2009 academic year.

“This is exciting for Sara and our program. Sara is our first student to receive a national American Humanics Scholarship,” said Dr. Raymond Poff, Executive Director of the WKU American Humanics (Nonprofit Administration) program. “This helps illustrate the caliber of students being attracted to the program. Sara and others in the program are achieving wonderful things and we are very proud of them.”

The WKU American Humanics (Nonprofit Administration) program is housed in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation within the College of Health and Human Services. American Humanics is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations that prepares and certifies college students for professional careers in youth and human service agencies.
