Green, Ky. - Dr. John Bonaguro, dean of Western Kentucky University’s College of Health and Human Services, has been appointed by Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear to the Southern Growth Policies Board.
Dr. Bonaguro replaces Frank Jemley on the board, which works to improve facilities and procedures fro study, analysis and planning of government policies, programs and activities of regional significance. The board assists in prevention of interstate conflicts and promotion of regional cooperation.
The board is composed of five members from each participating state. Other participating states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the territory of the Virgin Islands.
Gov. Beshear also reappointed WKU History Professor John A. Hardin to the Kentucky Oral History Commission through 2012. The commission consists of 12 members, 10 appointed by the governor.
The commission is a nationally recognized program with a collection of more than 25,000 oral history interviews and was created to preserve the legacy of Kentuckians. A grant program provides financial and technical assistance to academic and community oral historians. The commission also offers workshops, sponsors state conferences and participates in collaborative projects with other agencies and institutions.
