WKU Alumni Chapters Planning Community Service Projects

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Alumni Association chapters are planning several projects as part of National Community Service Day on April 5.

“This Community Service Day is a great opportunity for WKU alumni to give back to their communities and also to connect and work together with other WKU alumni and friends,” said Donald Smith, executive director of the WKU Alumni Association. “This is a chance for WKU alumni to come together for a unified effort to make a difference across the country.”

WKU alumni chapters have scheduled the following events (all are April 5 unless noted; additional information is available on the events calendar listing at http://alumni.wku.edu/):

Barren County chapter:
Donate supplies to the Barren River Animal Welfare Association, noon to 3 p.m. March 27 at WKU-Glasgow Campus and receive a free ticket to the WKU vs. FIU baseball game on April 5. Contact: Bryan Baysinger at bbaysinger@hilliard.com or (270) 651-2663.

Central Kentucky chapter:
Lions Run for Sight 5K Race, 7:30-10 a.m. EDT at Masterson Station Park in Lexington. Money raised will be distributed to many local charities. A partial list includes the purchase of eyeglasses for needy local persons, eye research in Kentucky, Lions Eye Foundation and Support for Lions Camp Crescendo in Lebanon Junction. Heartland chapter:

Greater Louisville chapter:

Muhlenberg County chapter:

Nashville (Tenn.) chapter:

Northern Kentucky chapter:

Paducah chapter:
St. Nicholas Family Free Clinic, 1901 Kentucky Ave. in Paducah. Contact: Lindsay Jones at (270) 832-1831.

Tampa Bay (Fla.) chapter:
Support Hillsborough County Teaching. Bring a donation of paper, washable markers, ball point pens, No. 2 pencils, spiral notebooks, folders, crayons, composition books, gift cards or any other school supplies to the Tampa Bay Day at the Races at 11 a.m. EDT March 8 and your donation will be delivered to the Teaching Tools program on April 5. Warren County chapter:
Support the Family Enrichment Center. 3 p.m. at Nick Denes Field. Bring new or slightly used children’s books or sporting equipment to the WKU vs. FIU baseball game and receive free admission.
