WKU Faculty, Alumni Honored In Pictures Of Year Contest

Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University photojournalism faculty members and three alumni were honored for their multimedia projects in the annual Pictures of the Year International contest.
WKU graduate David Stephenson of the Lexington Herald-Leader took first place in the Best Multimedia Category for “A New Dawn,” a project (http://www.heraldleaderphoto.com/dawn/) that followed a mother through drug court.
Second place in the category went to “Marlboro Marine” (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/marlboromarine/), a project by the Los Angeles Times and MediaStorm that was produced in part by Chad Stevens, a WKU graduate and former photojournalism instructor.
WKU faculty members Tim Broekema and James Kenney received an award of excellence in Best Multimedia for “The Women of Evangel” (http://www.wku.edu/~tim.broekema/nigeria), a project about women in Nigeria.
WKU graduate Kari Collins of the Concord (N.H.) Monitor received an award of excellence for her work on “Remember Me” (http://www.conmon.com/slideshow/rememberme/index.html), a project about a family facing the death of a loved one.
WKU’s Mountain Workshops website (http://www.mountainworkshops.org/2007/) received third place in the Best Use of Multimedia Category.
