'Vagina Monologues' Set For March 24 At WKU
March 19, 2008
Bowling
Green, Ky. - The Western Feminist Thought class of Western Kentucky University’s Women’s Studies Program will present Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” on Monday (March 24) at 7 p.m. in Grise Hall Auditorium.
The presentation is a part of V-Day 2008. V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
V-Day was born in 1998 as an outgrowth of Ensler’s Obie-Award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues.” As Ensler performed the piece in small towns and large cities all around the world, she saw and heard first hand the destructive personal, social, political and economic consequences of violence against women.
Since then, every year around the world, groups of all kinds, on college campuses and elsewhere, have staged readings of Ensler’s monologues, charging admission and giving the proceeds to local women’s shelters.
Tickets are available at the door for $7. Proceeds will benefit Hope Harbor and Barren River Area Safe Space.
