Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Ad+PR program has partnered with Rent-A-Center to bring back one of the region’s biggest video game competitions for a third year. The competition, called Gameathon, is a daylong event that makes its return on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event, held in Mass Media & Technology Hall, will have two divisions of competition: one versus one and team play. One-versus-one games, Madden 2008 and Halo 3, will kick off the tournament at 11:30 a.m. and go until 2 p.m. Rock Band for team play will also be at the same time. Competitors for Guitar Hero 3 and Call of Duty 4 will face off at 2 p.m. to finish the tournament.
Prior to the competition participants and spectators will have the opportunity to check out the game expo featuring games and systems from GameStop as well as flat screen TVs from Rent-A-Center. Participants will also be able to enjoy offerings from other sponsors including Minit Mart, Godfather’s Pizza, Coupon Mint and Pepsi.
The four winners from the individual game tournaments will compete with a mystery game on the projection screen in front of a live audience in the auditorium of MMTH. Prizes will be awarded to all four finalists and the winner of the final heat will be declared the WKU Game Master and win the grand prize – a flat screen television and a sound system.
Registration for the event is free and open to the public. Gameathon competitors are encouraged to pre-register online at www.gameathon.org and can do so until April 3. Walk-in registrations are welcomed starting at 10 a.m. on April 5, if space is still available for the desired game.
