Parliamentary Debate Team Competes In National Tourney

March 17, 2008

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Tacoma, Wash., to take part in the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence on the weekend of March 14-15.

The invitation-only event is one of two national parliamentary debate tournaments that WKU students have qualified for this year. Receiving an invitation to NPTE is an honor, as this is the largest debate organization in the nation with more than 1,000 teams competing for the opportunity.

This weekend, the debate team will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to compete in the National Parliamentary Debate Association tournament, the final parliamentary debate tournament of the year.

Team results from the NPTE are as follows:

Chad Meadows (Owensboro senior) and Thomas Schally (junior from Stillwater, Minn.), fifth in parliamentary debate.

Elizabeth Mullins (sophomore from Plymouth, Mass.) and Logan Parke (sophomore from Little Rock, Ark.), sixth in parliamentary debate.

Jessica Furgerson (sophomore from San Antonio, Texas) and Rachel Mosley (junior from Lake Tahoe, Calif.), seventh in parliamentary debate.

In individual results, Schally was third debate speaker, Meadows was eighth debate speaker and Mullins was 14th debate speaker.
