Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Office of Admissions will host its first “WKU Freshman Academy” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11.
The program will provide helpful information to about 700 Kentucky high school freshmen from Grayson County High School in Leitchfield and Warren Central High School in Bowling Green.
The event, which begins at Van Meter Auditorium, is being offered in conjunction with the administration of the statewide ACT to Kentucky high school juniors. The program was set up after two schools contacted WKU about bringing their entire freshman class to the campus on the day of the statewide ACT to create a more conducive testing environment for their juniors while, at the same time, providing a beneficial experience for their freshmen.
The students also will have an opportunity to participate in three sessions: a general, informational session about WKU; a question-and-answer panel with current WKU students; and a session on what they should be doing the next three years to prepare for college. The sessions will be held at Garrett Conference Center and the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center.
The day will conclude with an academic expo at Garrett Conference Center featuring academic colleges and departments at WKU as well as student support services.
The Office of Admissions is offering the program as a pilot this year to determine ways to expand it in future years.
