WKU Music Students To Perform At Annual State Conference

Bowling Green, Ky. - More than 30 Western Kentucky University music students will perform as part of collegiate ensembles during the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) 50th Annual In-Service Professional Development Conference Feb. 6-9 in Louisville. 

University and college students from across the Commonwealth auditioned for the Intercollegiate Band, the All-Collegiate Choir and the Intercollegiate Orchestra. 

Seven WKU students were selected to participate in the All-Collegiate Choir, 10 were selected for the Intercollegiate Band, and 19 were selected for the Intercollegiate Orchestra. 

“This high number of WKU music students selected for these coveted ensembles are a direct reflection of the rigor of performance expectations in the Department of Music,” said Dr. Mitzi Groom, department head.

The students will assemble Feb. 6 for intense rehearsals under guest conductors that will culminate in a public concert on the KMEA concert stage Feb. 7. 

WKU students selected include the following:

Intercollegiate Band: Ana Bogach of Scottsville, bass clarinet; Laura Beth Galipeau of Russellville, bassoon; Courtney Greenfield of Elkton, clarinet; Rebecca Harlow of Versailles, horn; Kara Oglesby of Auburn, clarinet; Paul Rotramel of Lexington, trumpet; Matt Shores of Bowling Green, tuba; Jonathan Staples of Reynolds Station, trumpet; Jim Stites of Bowling Green, tuba; and Chris Westover of Bowling Green, alto saxophone.

All-Collegiate Choir: Leigh Anderson of Bowling Green, alto; Will Armour of Bowling Green, bass; Tyler Ayers of Smiths Grove, bass; Caitlin Denman of Bowling Green, soprano; Erin Newman of Bowling Green, soprano; Chris Powell of Bowling Green, tenor; and Jacob Sensenig of Oakland, tenor.
