Green, Ky. - Sixteen Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to Columbus, Ohio, on Dec. 5-6 for the team’s final tournament of the fall semester.
At the Ohio State Tournament, WKU was crowned overall sweepstakes champion, while Ohio University took second place with Berry College in third. WKU will resume the 2008-09 season in mid-January with a debate tournament in Colorado.
Results from the Ohio State Tournament are as follows:
Elizabeth Mullins, a junior from Plymouth, Mass., tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate, second debate speaker and second in informative speaking.
Adam Swanson, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Mario Nguyen) and second in after-dinner speaking.
Lauren Nelson, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., tournament champion in prose interpretation, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and third in informative speaking.
Jessica Furgerson, a junior from San Antonio, tournament champion in informative speaking and third debate speaker.
Mario Nguyen, a freshman from Plano, Texas, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with Adam Swanson) and sixth in dramatic interpretation.
Jerome Davis, a junior from Austell, Ga., tournament champion in dramatic interpretation.
Chris Hiller, a freshman from Coppell, Texas, third in dramatic interpretation and fourth in prose interpretation.
Logan Parke, a junior from Little Rock, Ark., semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Brian Bloss, a senior from Coppell, Texas, fourth in extemporaneous speaking.
Kelcy Hathaway, a junior from Garden City, Kan., fourth in impromptu speaking.
Rachel Mosley, a senior from Lake Tahoe, Calif., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth in persuasive speaking.
Todd Rainey, a sophomore from Indianapolis, fifth in impromptu speaking and sixth in extemporaneous speaking.
Joshua Harzman, a sophomore from Salina, Kan., fifth in communication analysis.
Sarah Spiker, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Josh Ramsey, a junior from Fort Scott, Kan., octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth debate speaker.
