Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University students now have another option for dining on campus.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted Friday morning for a new food court between Pearce-Ford Tower and Keen Hall. The facility houses a Popeye’s Chicken, Zoca’s, Edy’s Ice Cream and a convenience store.
WKU is home to the first Popeye’s location in a college facility. “We very excited that we’ll be the first,” said Tim Colley, district manager for Aramark and the WKU Restaurant & Catering Group.
Popeye’s chose WKU for its first college site because of the growth and success of the University’s dining program, Colley said.
The restaurants will offer lunch, dinner and late-night dining options for the 2,700 students who live in Pearce-Ford Tower, Keen, Poland, Zacharias, Meredith, Barnes-Campbell and Bemis Lawrence halls on the south end of WKU’s main campus while the convenience store will be open at 7:30 a.m.
“We’re trying to meet all their needs,” Colley said. “This facility will be a great benefit to the campus community.”
The 6,300-square-foot food court is a joint venture between the Student Life Foundation, WKU Auxiliary Services and the WKU Restaurant & Catering Group.
The food court is among numerous improvements in the Pearce-Ford Tower area. The Student Life Foundation is renovating the 27-story residence hall and nearby Keen Hall and is constructing a landscaped courtyard there.
