10th Annual SOKY Book Fest Includes Authors And Fund Raisers For Literacy

Bowling Green, Ky. - More than 150 authors for adults and 25 authors for children will be in attendance at this year’s Southern Kentucky Book Fest.

The 2008 Book Fest will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 19 at the Sloan Convention Center and will feature best-selling author Mitch Albom, thriller writer Harlan Coben, “Arthur” the Aardvark creator Marc Brown, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” author Jeff Kinney, and “American Girl” author Kathleen Ernst.

Albom is the author of nine books, including the newest, “For One More Day.” His first novel, “The Five People You Meet in Heaven,” is the most successful U.S. hardcover first novel ever and has sold more than 8 million copies. “Tuesdays with Morrie,” his chronicle of time spent with a beloved but dying college professor, is the most successful memoir ever published.

International bestseller Coben is author of the acclaimed series about sports agent Myron Bolitar. Marc Brown’s “Arthur” series includes more than 150 books and spawned the Emmy Award-winning PBS television series. Brown will give a free talk at 9 a.m. and those that attend can also meet special guest “Arthur.”

A Tea Party with “American Girl” author Kathleen Ernst at 2 p.m. will include a chance to win American Girl
prizes. Tickets for the Tea Party are $10 for adults and $7 for children.

In celebration of Book Fest’s 10th anniversary a special “Meet the Authors” fund raiser is being held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 18 at the Club at Olde Stone. Tickets are $50 and include food, drinks and an opportunity for the public to mingle with the Book Fest authors. Proceeds benefit the SOKY Book Fest and other literacy projects in the region.   

SOKY Book Fest is Kentucky’s largest literary festival. The event attracts readers of all ages who welcome the opportunity to meet their favorite authors and purchase signed copies of their works. The event is a partnership project of WKU Libraries, Bowling Green Public Library, and Barnes and Noble booksellers.
