Inaugural Festival For Autism Awareness April 19

Bowling Green, Ky. - The inaugural Southern Kentucky Festival for Autism Awareness, sponsored by Waiora Team Global Health, will be April 19 at Western Kentucky University.
           
The family-oriented event begins at 1 p.m. with a kick off at Cherry Hall. The first 100 to sign in get a free T-shirt. The kick off will be followed by a fun walk, led by Big Red, along College Heights Boulevard to the Downing University Center South Lawn where festival activities will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
           
Festival activities include a balloon release, information and food booths, live music with the Ernie Small Blues Band and inflatable activities.
           
There will also be a free car show on the South Lawn from noon to 3 p.m. Entries should arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. and trophies will be awarded to the top three cars and there will also be a children’s choice award.
           
The festival offers an opportunity for families of individuals on the Autism Spectrum to meet and mingle with other families, therapists, volunteers, professionals and local autism resource providers.
           
One in 150 children is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it the fasted-growing developmental disability. Every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with autism.
