Celebration Of Hope Over Depression Set For Oct. 8

September 19, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Family Counseling Clinic, a part of the Clinical Education Complex at Western Kentucky University, with assistance from the WKU Counseling and Testing Center, will host a celebration of hope over depression on Oct. 8 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Family Counseling Center is located at 104 14th St., in Bowling Green.

The purpose of this event is to provide a festive, yet serious, information fair to inform, educate and empower the community to take steps to prevent and treat depression.  During this event community members will have the chance to visit with experts at information tables, complete a depression screening, and attend suicide prevention presentations.  Information tables will include displays and advice on topics ranging from relaxation techniques, journaling and meditation to nutrition, exercise and stress reduction.

People who wonder if they are depressed or those who are close to others who are depressed are encouraged to attend.  While depression is a serious disorder that can lead to suicide, the hosts of this event feel it is important to speak openly and positively about overcoming depression.  This event is considered a celebration of depression; a celebration of treatment and recovery from a devastating yet preventable disorder.
