WKU Communication Department To Host Statewide Teaching Conference

September 27, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - Communication instructors from colleges and universities across the Commonwealth will gather Oct.11-12 at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center at Western Kentucky University to participate in the Kentucky Public Speaking Conference.

This conference will provide practical tips and techniques to instructors who teach basic public speaking courses, which are required courses for graduation at many institutions. Approximately 75 instructors from both public and private institutions are expected to attend the two-day event, which features topics such as Speech Apprehension, Teaching Speech Online, and Service Learning. Facilitators of these topics represent 11 of the Commonwealth’s universities.

Dr. Mitchell McKinney, WKU alumnus and recent National Communication Association staff member, will present the keynote address at Thursday’s dinner regarding the future of public speaking instruction.

This is the first conference to benefit public speaking instructors to take place in Kentucky in about 15 years. The Conference is hosted by the WKU Department of Communication.
