Green, Ky. - Tracy Cummings Harkins has been appointed as the new Community Outreach Manager of WKU Libraries, replacing Jayne Pelaski who resigned last spring.
Harkins was formerly the events coordinator at Princeton University Bookstore in Princeton, N.J., and an educational technology consultant with Wisconsin Public Broadcasting in Madison, Wis. She earned a master of science degree in communications from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., and was most recently the grant facilitator for non-profits at the WKU ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships.
“I am so fortunate to have been asked to lead such a successful community event like SOKY Book Fest. The event is such a collaborative effort and a true partnership in every sense of the word,” Harkins said. “I’m looking forward to bringing more authors and readers together and building on our mission to increase literacy.”
The Community Outreach Manager reports to the dean of WKU Libraries and plans, organizes and implements the Southern Kentucky Book Fest with the partnership, as well as other literary events including 1Read, One Campus-One Community-One Book, Fall into Books, the Macy’s Used Book Sale and more.
The 2008 Book Fest is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green. Hundreds of authors from throughout the country will participate and sign books for patrons. The event is free and open to the public and funds raised from book sales are used to promote literacy projects in the area.
The mission of the Southern Kentucky Book Fest partners is to encourage reading and the love of books and to be a positive force in reducing illiteracy in our region and state. The partnership includes WKU Libraries, Bowling Green Public Library and Barnes & Noble Booksellers. For information, visit www.sokybookfest.org.
