Bowling Green, Ky. - Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 24, Western Kentucky University’s College of Health and Human Services Living and Learning Community students will begin a Pedometer Competition against the healthcare professionals at Greenview Regional Hospital. The competition will last one week with a follow-up discussion about energy expenditure. The purpose of the pedometer competition is to promote a healthier lifestyle and to get people walking!
“We are in our third year of partnering with the Living & Learning Community at WKU,” stated Mark Marsh, Chief Executive Officer at Greenview Regional Hospital. “Each year we try to find new and innovative ways of interacting the students with professionals. The pedometer competition is a unique way for us to have a friendly competition and also keep us aware of the importance of exercising whether a student or a professional.”
Forty students will be wearing pedometers and competing against 30 Greenview professionals and 10 of Western’s College of Health and Human Services Faculty and Staff.
“The students in the Living & Learning Community are always excited about an opportunity to interact with the professionals at Greenview,” stated Sylvia Gaiko, PhD, Associate Dean of WKU’s College of Health and Human Services. “The competitors are extremely excited about this event and look forward to seeing who will walk more in the week.”
The College of Health and Human Services and Greenview Regional Hospital hope that this event will promote a healthier lifestyle and life-long physical activity.
