Green, Ky. - Students from five area counties will participate in a Hands on Health Career Expo on Friday (Nov. 2) at Western Kentucky University.
The event is sponsored by South Central Kentucky AHEC (Area Health Education Center) and GEAR UP Kentucky.
Seventh- and eighth-graders from Adairville as well as ninth-graders from Butler, Green, Metcalfe and Monroe counties will attend. The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at WKU’s Downing University Center and Academic Complex.
Health careers are one of the fastest growing occupations and many health careers either have shortages or are predicting shortages in the near future due to retirements and an older work force.
GEAR UP is a federally funded program designed to promote continued education beyond the high school level. For many students, health careers will be their choice to continue their education.
Representatives from WKU, Bowling Green Technical College and other agencies will provide information about the following careers: radiation technologist, sonographer, surgical technologist, EMT/paramedic, environmental health specialist, exercise physiologist, health care administrator, health educator, social worker, dietitian, dental hygienist, dentist, pharmacist and physical therapist.
