WKU American Humanics Students Seek Nominations To Honor Local Nonprofit Organizations, Philanthropic Businesses

November 27, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - Students in the Western Kentucky University American Humanics (Nonprofit Administration) program are seeking award nominations from local nonprofit organizations and businesses.

Nomination forms can be downloaded at www.wku.edu/AH with all nominations due by 5 p.m. Feb. 1.
Nominations will be accepted for the following three awards: Established Nonprofit Organization Award, Emerging Nonprofit Organization Award and Philanthropic Business Award. These three awards will be presented at the first Nonprofit Excellence Award Reception to be held at 5:30 p.m. April 1 at the L & N Depot.

WKU American Humanics students work toward earning a national certification in nonprofit administration by taking classes, completing a 300-hour internship in a nonprofit organization, participating in the American Humanics Student Association and attending the national American Humanics Management Institute.

This event, modeled after a similar program at Western Michigan University, is being developed with following four goals: honor and promote nonprofit excellence in the local community, further professional relationships between nonprofit organizations and businesses, provide students with the experience of organizing a major event, and fundraise to offset student travel expenses for the national management institute.

The WKU American Humanics (Nonprofit Administration) program is housed in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation within the College of Health and Human Services. American Humanics is a national alliance of colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations that prepares and certifies college students for professional careers in youth and human service agencies.

American Humanics is affiliated with colleges and universities nationwide including WKU, and partners with national nonprofit organizations including the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs, Boy Scouts of America, Girls Inc., Girl Scouts of the USA, Humane Society, Junior Achievement, March of Dimes, National 4-H Council, YMCA, and the United Way.
