Green, Ky. - A Franklin couple has responded to a challenge gift issued last month for the Western Kentucky University Lady Topper Basketball program.
Gary and Gail Broady have made a $100,000 gift to create an endowed scholarship for the women’s basketball program. The gift was made in response to a $200,000 challenge gift from Mike and Belle Hunt of Bowling Green. This brings the total number of endowed scholarships for Lady Topper Basketball to eight.
Gary Broady received his undergraduate degree from WKU in 1977 and his MBA in 1984. He is President and CEO of Franklin Bank and Trust. Gail Broady graduated from WKU in 1979 and is a Certified Public Accountant in her own accounting firm in Franklin.
“We thank Gary and Gail for their many years of tremendous support for our women’s basketball program,” said Lady Topper Head Coach Mary Taylor Cowles. “Their financial gift will go a long way in helping us as we continue to strive toward excellence both on the court and in the classroom. Not only does this gift help our program now but also our future.”
WKU Athletic Director Wood Selig agrees. “Our women's basketball fan base is one of the best in the nation. For Gary and Gail Broady to step up like they have to help us meet the challenge issued by Mike and Belle Hunt is tremendous,” he said. “Our goal continues to become one of a handful of women’s basketball programs with 15 fully endowed scholarships. We take another step closer to that goal today, while maintaining our national competitiveness as a result of this generous financial commitment by the Broadys.”
Gary Broady said he and his wife Gail “believe in WKU and its vision. We wanted to make our commitment to program which has demonstrated the leadership and integrity that will promote that vision.”
