WKU Students Create Blog For 'Literary New England' Tour

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University students participating in a two-week “Literary New England” course are writing about the experience on a weblog.

The WKU group is spending the May term visiting the homes of authors, including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Henry David Thoreau, Harriett Beecher Stowe, Emily Dickinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Bronson Alcott, William Bradford, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Mark Twain.

The trip includes visits to several historic sites, a viewing of the Emily Dickinson collection at Harvard’s Houghton Library and a whale-watching excursion off the coast of Massachusetts.

Students participating in “Literary New England” include Robert Deignan, Jessie Magee and Brooke Shafar, all of Louisville, Ky.; Dawn Winters, Rebekah Russell, Isaac Russell, Cameron Carr-Calvert and Belita Goad, all of Bowling Green, Ky.; Laura Hess of Auburn, Ky.; Shawn Bivin of Franklin, Ky.; and Ashley Belcher of Owensboro, Ky. Other participants include English faculty member Walker Rutledge, graduate assistant Derick Strode and Alicia Pirtle, a staff member at WKU’s Division of Extended Learning and Outreach.
