Danville Wins Speech Tournament; Henry Clay Wins Debate

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Kentucky High School Speech League, Inc., hosted the 2007 State Debate Tournament March 15-16 and the 2007 Senior State Speech Tournament March 16-17 on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

Fifty-one schools competed at this year’s speech tournament while 15 schools competed in the debate tournament.

The following high schools placed in team speech sweepstakes: Danville, Graves County, Grant County, Lafayette, Bethlehem, Paul L. Dunbar, Boone County, Knott County Central, Paducah Tilghman and Assumption.
The following schools placed in team debate sweepstakes: Henry Clay, North Oldham, Larry A. Ryle, Danville, Fern Creek Traditional, Calloway County, Kentucky Country Day, Graves County, LaRue County, Russellville and Lafayette.

The Horizon Awards are given to schools with smaller entries who demonstrate excellence at the State Tournament. The top five were: Nelson County, Crittenden County, Corbin, Boyle County and Kentucky Country Day.

The 2007 Sustained Excellence Trophy was presented to Calloway County High School. The Blyton Book Award was presented to Jimmy Houlihan of Central Hardin. The Blyton Scholarship was presented to Matthew Bunch of Central Hardin.
