WKU Theatre Program Receives National Accreditation
March 28, 2007
Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Department of Theatre and Dance has received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
Accreditation means that “a national consortium of experts in the fields of theatre and theatre education have taken a good close look at our programs here at WKU, and have given us their stamp of approval,” Theatre and Dance Department Head Scott Stroot said. “It’s a nice affirmation from our peers and colleagues from across the country that our theatre programs meet or exceed national quality standards.”
NAST is the national accrediting agency for theatre and theatre-related disciplines. WKU is one of three programs in Kentucky (along with the University of Louisville and Morehead State University) to be accredited by NAST, Stroot said, and among 135 institutions nationally to be accredited.
Stroot said accreditation is a multi-year project that includes a comprehensive guided self-study, an on-site evaluation by two trained accreditors, and a review of both by an eight-member accreditation commission.
