Bowling
Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University broadcasting professor Terry Likes has received an award for his reporting from the Radio/TV News Directors Association.
Likes’ documentary entry, “The Changing Faces of the Evening News,” won a regional Edward R. Murrow award. He now moves on to compete against other regional winners. National winners will be announced in June.
The nine-minute documentary, which aired last July on WKYU-FM, took a look at historic changes in the network evening news anchor desk and how new anchors face a challenge to prove the vitality of the evening news genre after years of declining audiences. Last month, Likes’ report received a national second-place award from the Broadcast Education Association.
Likes, who has taught broadcast journalism at WKU since 1988, thanked WKYU-FM news director Dan Modlin for airing the report. Likes has won more than a dozen awards from the Associated Press, Broadcast Education Association and National Press Club and continues to produce freelance reports. He has participated in the Radio/TV News Directors Foundation “Excellence in Journalism Education” program via a faculty fellowship at WTHR-TV Indianapolis. Likes earned his doctorate at the University of Kentucky and has a master’s degree from WKU.
