Bowling
Green, Ky. -Bowling Green’s Operation P.R.I.D.E. will recognize Western Kentucky University on Tuesday evening for its campus beautification projects.
WKU will receive the monthly Operation P.R.I.D.E. award at the Bowling Green City Commission meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The awards are presented to those that have made significant improvements to residential and non-residential property.
In recent years, WKU has undertaken several projects to maintain and enhance the scenic beauty of the campus, such as adding landscape islands along College Heights Boulevard, creating Centennial Mall as a pedestrian walkway, and replacing and planting more than 400 trees.
The projects have involved both the Department of Planning Design and Construction and the Department of Facilities Management. However, the grounds maintenance crew works daily to maintain the beauty of the lawns, trees and other plantings. WKU horticulture students also assist in planning, planting and maintaining the different planting beds around campus.
