WKU Names Interim Director Of Owensboro Campus

Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. Joseph Etienne has been named as the Interim Associate Dean of Western Kentucky University’s Division of Extended Learning and Outreach and Director of WKU-Owensboro effective July 2.

Dr. Etienne will serve in this role until a permanent replacement is found for Dr. Marilyn Brookman, who is retiring after serving in this position for 12 years. 

“Marilyn has done a tremendous job as WKU’s representative and regional campus leader in Owensboro, and has been an extremely positive asset to the community as well,” said Dr. Don Swoboda, Dean of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach, who has administrative responsibility for WKU regional campuses in Owensboro, Glasgow and Elizabethtown/Ft. Knox. 

“A search committee will be named shortly. In the meantime, I am delighted that Dr. Etienne has agreed to serve in this interim role,” Dr. Swoboda said. “He is extremely well qualified both academically and administratively, and has the added advantage of knowing the Owensboro community.” 

Dr. Etienne is a native of Perry County, Ind., and has served as faculty member and department head at WKU for the past 16 years. Prior to joining the Department of Communication Disorders, he taught at Brescia University for 10 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Indiana University in 1976 and 1977. He earned the Specialist in Education degree (Ed.S.) in Public Service Counseling from WKU in 1985 and the Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1991.

Dr. Etienne is married to the former Darlina Lynn McBride, a native of Daviess County. They have one daughter, one son and three grandsons. They have resided in Owensboro since 1979. The Etiennes are members of the Saint Pius Catholic Church in Owensboro.
