WKU Students Experience U.S. Olympic Committee Sport Management Seminar

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University students participated in the 3rd annual United States Olympic Committee Sport Management Seminar conducted by Glen Werner-Roseboom and the staff at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center May 13-18.
           
More than 20 of the nation’s top sport management professionals addressed the group on topics such as international games preparation, security, media relations and marketing. WKU students worked collaboratively with students from the University of Alabama on practical projects throughout week under USOC staff supervision.
           
“I am a person who firmly believes that quality education comes from both the classroom and real-life experiences,” said WKU Athletic Facilities graduate assistant Rick French of Louisville. “The USOC hospitality was second to none and their intense program gave us the opportunity to grow academically and professionally.”
           
Other students participating were Gina Brown of Louisville; Jeff Lloyd of Columbia; Kristine Himes of Bolivar, Ohio; Craig Morehead of Connersville, Ind.; Brett Riley, Sonya Bain and Adam Whitt of Bowling Green; Irele Oderinde of Georgetown; Austin Taylor of Tifton, Ga.; and Jami Deberry of Franklin. They were accompanied by WKU faculty members Fred Gibson and Randy Deere.
           
The group also visited the facilities of the United States Air Force Academy, Invesco at Mile High Stadium, and the Pepsi Center during their stay. Several students interviewed for internships with sport organizations including the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Denver Broncos.
