E-Mails Sent From WKU Addresses Without Permission

June 12, 2007

Bowling Green, Ky. - Early on Saturday morning, June 9, two Western Kentucky University Email accounts were accessed by someone other than the authorized account holders and used without consent to send two Email messages. WKU has confirmed that the messages were not initiated or distributed with the consent or knowledge of the account holders. Members of WKU’s Information Technology staff are investigating the matter and if identified, the offending party may face disciplinary action and criminal prosecution.

Email users are encouraged to periodically change passwords and to not use passwords that can be easily guessed.
