WKU Regents Elect Lois Gray As Chair For 2007-08

Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University’s Board of Regents on Friday elected Lois Gray of Elizabethtown as chair for 2007-08.

The board also elected Jim Meyer of Bowling Green as vice chair and Elizabeth Esters as secretary. They will serve through June 30, 2008.

In other action, the board:

  • Approved the appointments of Dr. Michael Ann Williams, department head of Folk Studies and Anthropology, and Dr. Elizabeth A. Lemerise, professor of psychology and co-director of the Center for Life Span Development, as University Distinguished Professors for a five-year term, effective with the 2007-08 academic year.

  • Approved a new Center for Professional Selling housed in the Marketing Department of the Gordon Ford College of Business. WKU has been invited to become the 12th national center in the University Sales Center Alliance.

  • Approved a minor in Facility and Event Management, a bachelor of science in Sport Management and a bachelor of science in Exercise Science, all offered through the Department of Physical Education and Recreation in the College of Health and Human Services.

  • Approved a master of science in Homeland Security Sciences offered through the departments of Physics and Astronomy, Biology and Chemistry in the Ogden College of Science and Engineering.

  • Approved changing the name of the University Honors Program to Honors College, effective July 1.

  • Approved a special tuition rate for Army service members enrolling through GoArmyEd that is equal to the Army Tuition Cap (currently $250 per semester hour for graduate and undergraduate courses), effective with the fall 2007 semester.
  • Authorized President Gary Ransdell to enter into a Master Development Agreement with the City of Bowling Green, Warren County and Alliance Corporation following approval and authorization by Warren County Fiscal Court.

The agreement would create a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District through a public-private partnership to redevelop an area connecting WKU to downtown Bowling Green. As part of the agreement, WKU would commit to leasing 200 parking spaces in a proposed downtown parking structure for $250,000 per year for 15 years and for $1 per year for an additional 15 years.

  • Approved a contract extension for Dr. Don Swoboda, dean of the Division of Extended Learning and Outreach.

  • Approved a contract with Dr. Sharon Buzzard, University Experience Director.
  • Approved resolutions honoring retiring faculty and staff members who have 1,157 collective years of service to WKU.
